.Group 1 Software is pleased to announce the latest release of DOC1 Series 5. This contains fixes to certain reported problems and some new features that were intended for 5.1 and are now available.

Please note that upgrading to DOC1 5.1m2 is optional.

DOC1 5.1m2 Enhancements:
New features and enhancements that have been introduced since DOC1 5.1 are listed below:

DOC1 Design/Generate:
Document selection for output device -- If you have document designs that are only suitable for specific output methods you can explicitly assign the appropriate types of output datastream to the document. DOC1 Generate will then only use the document design when it is writing to suitable output datastreams.

RTF fields -- Rich text format (RTF) fields created in a third party text editor can be used in a document, for instance in lookup tables or data fields. Note that this feature is currently available on Windows platforms only.

PCL output -- DOC1 Generate can now output PCL which is typically used to control Hewlett Packard desktop printers and similar devices.

HTML output -- DOC1 Generate can now output HTML pages. These are created along with the associated image resources within an XML wrapper for onward distribution to your web server or to DOC1 Archive.

Importing application designs -- A utility has been provided to import publication designs from other applications into the format expected by DOC1 Designer. The external design must be defined in XSL (Extensible Stylesheet Language) format, specifically those using the XSL-FO standard.

Document Composition Service -- The Document Composition Service allows a web client to submit application data to DOC1 Generate running in server mode. The output datastream created by Generate is then sent back to the client and can be printed locally.
