DOC1 v 5.5.1 Enhancements

EngageOne Interactive Design
All design features included in DOC1 Designer v5.4.1 in support of EngageOne interactive have been merged into DOC1 v5.5.1. Key design capabilities for interactive documents include the ability to identify editable content, data prompts, and optional content lists. These additions also include support for testing and publishing templates for the EngageOne server.

Business logic / Active Content
The existing business logic feature has been renamed Active Content. The functionality is the same as in previous releases, with the following enhancements:

    • Active Content can be published independently and then used dynamically to update publications that are already in production for traditional use of DOC1GEN, as well as when published to the EngageOne Server.
    • Active Content groups are now available. These groups provide a means of auto-selecting active content for inclusion into a final document based upon content properties such as jurisdiction, effective date, and form number as well as traditional show when conditions on the group itself.
Snapshot Improvements
Snapshots were previously limited to a one-way transfer to a clean repository. It is now possible to use snapshots for repository-to-repository transfers. These can be used to provide version control and backup of repositories.

Changing sample data in advanced preview
When using advanced preview on a publication you can use a different sample data to the one that is assigned to the publication.

Sorting lists of variables and message data fields
Lists of variables and message data fields can now be sorted alphabetically. This can help when trying to navigate very long lists.

Enhancements to newspaper column layouts
Headers and footers can now span across all the columns in the column layout. They can be used in addition to the normal column headers and footers. Lines can be added between columns to give them a visual separation. You can customize the weight and color.

Multiple output devices
Multiple output devices of the same type can now be generated in the same job. This allows you to produce several versions for the same output data stream from the same publication design but with variations in the output device settings.

Publishing resources separately
It is now possible to publish a publication design separately from the font and image resources that it requires. While these options need to be used with care to avoid unexpected results in the production environment, it may save time where complex applications need to be republished without resource changes. They also offer greater flexibility for sharing devices across publications for on-demand and interactive documents.

Driver Enhancements
A range of driver enhancements including:

    • Support has been added to eHTML for right-to-left and bi-directional text, as used for Arabic and Indian dialects.
    • PDF output can now be made specifically compliant with the PDF archiving standard PDF/A. Additionally, PDF encryption can now be 128 bit
    • AFP and Metacode overlays (or forms) can be imported for use in the background of your document design.
    • DBCS support has been added for AFP outline (FOCA Type1) fonts.
    • Support has been added for the AFP CMOCA standard that allows for ICC profiles in embedded images. Note that this can only be used where supported by the target AFP device.
    • Roll feed layout formats such as tumble and tumble duplex are now supported for IJPDS, AFP, and PCL output.
EngageOne Interactive v1.1 Enhancements

Major improvements related to the robustness of the EngageOne Server encompass the majority of the changes for EngageOne 1.1. These include:

    • Significant improvements to performance and scalability of the entire server infrastructure with a 40%-50% improvement in overall response times of each transaction and scalability upwards of 300 concurrent users per node (actual scale results will vary).
    • Introduction of a configuration framework offering a single location for system wide configuration.
    • Support for all LDAP servers using the X.500 standard including but not limited to Tivoli, Apache and Sun.
EngageOne now supports content in any language, including both single byte and double byte languages. In addition to this, EngageOne is now available in 8 translated languages including Spanish, German, French, Portuguese, Simplified Chinese, Japanese, Korean, and Russian.

CCM Content v5.5.1 Author Enhancements

Enhanced language support
Support has been added for text in languages that use complex scripts such as those that require one or more glyphs to make up a character (e.g. Bengali), are right-to-left, and use ligatures (e.g. Arabic). Bi-directional text is also now supported for situations where Arabic and Western characters are mixed. These features are available for the AFP, Postscript, PDF and eHTML drivers.

Driver support
A range of driver enhancements including:

    • Support has been added for PCL driver, IJPDS driver, and outline fonts (FOCA Type1) for AFP.
    • PDF output can be made compliant with the PDF archiving standard PDF/A.
    • Line data driver (note that this was added to the 5.5 release but not officially announced).
    • The method of selecting a driver has been enhanced to enable you to specify the settings for each output driver.
Enhancements to messages
Authors can now add comments to messages. These could be used, for instance, to highlight particular points to the reviewer. When creating a new message, the options default to those that were used when the previous message was created.

DCS v1.6 Enhancements

DCS v1.6 further enhances the support for dynamic DCS to include sending input data and receiving generate file as Web Service attachments. Dynamic DCS eliminates the requirement to tightly tie a specific adapter to a publication thus allowing any available adapter to service any publication. The initial release of dynamic DCS available in DCS 1.5 only supported delivery of generated files through a file/path location. Dynamic DCS requires DOC1GEN 5.4.1 or higher.

e-Messaging v1.2 Enhancements

Enhanced Reports
Several customers have configured e-Messaging to route delivery status and reply messages to different workflow queues by setting "return-path" and "reply-to" headers dynamically for each message sent. The drill-down reporting on outbound message reports has been enhanced to provide a better overview of what status or reply messages are being processed by which workflow queues.

Data in the reports on outbound messages can now be filtered by the domain name of the recipient. This makes it easier to detect if certain ISPs fail to deliver messages more frequently than others. Outbound messages that result in an "Out of Office" message now get itemized separately in the outbound message reports.

Besides tracking when an email message is last opened e-Messaging now tracks and reports the first and last time that a message was opened. This information is provided in both the Sent (Individual) report as well as through the REST Outbound Message API.

Enhanced Deliverability Features
Certain ISPs consider any mail server that delivers mail to their networks faster than a specific rate to be sending SPAM. This threshold varies from one ISP to the other. This enhanced deliverability feature will allow the maximum message sending rate to be set on a domain by domain basis.

Auto-close "Out of office" Messages
An option has been added to automatically close workflow items that are created as the result of processing "Out of office" inbound messages. When enabled, "Out of Office" messages can still be indexed and archived and used to update the status of the outbound message that triggered the "Out of Office" reply, however, they would no longer appear on the workflow queues of messages that require a response. This feature can be configured to handle "Out of Office" messages in any language.

SMPP (Short Message Peer-to-Peer) Interface Adaptor for SMS Gateways
The Short Message Peer-to-Peer (SMPP) protocol is a telecommunications industry protocol for exchanging SMS messages between SMS peer entities such as short message service centers. It is often used to allow third parties (e.g. value-added service providers like news organizations) to submit messages, often in bulk. Several telecom customers requested e-Messaging to be able to send and receive SMS messages using the SMPP protocol. Although SMPP support will not be packaged with e-Messaging until e-Messaging version 1.3, by the time version 1.2 is released an SMPP adaptor will be available to provide SMPP support to e-Messaging version 1.1 and 1.2.
